Is it permissible to take commission in Islam?

Question:

My name is Zaid and I am a driver in Mumbai. We (driver community) have made a group for mutual cooperation and time to time we help each other. My question is that if someone hired my Car for his journey from Mumbai to Pune on fare of 2000. I accepted his offer but I myself did not go rather I contacted to one of my group members for the same cause on the fare of 1700. Now there are two ways for collecting the fare from costumer, sometime he sends me money directly and sometime after reaching to his destination he hands over to the driver. In first situation, I give 1700 RS to the driver and in the second situation, he returns 300 RS. Is it lawful (Halaal) to take commission in Islam?

Answer:

The aforementioned situation of this matter is right and it is permissible to take commission in Islam. The first driver will be considered as a broker, he has worked and his efforts have been found in dealing the matter. That is why it will be allowable for him to receive commission.
